The Bribery Act will not be implemented in April as previously planned, it has been confirmed.

The Ministry of Justice confirmed that the legislation would be held back until new guidance on complying with the law was published and that three months must pass between the publication of the guidance and the implementation of the Bribery Act. It is not clear when the guidance will be published.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice has said:

“We are working on the guidance to make it practical and comprehensive for business. We will come forward with further details in due course."
A spokesperson for the Prime Minister this week also confirmed the Government was “looking at the issue”, adding:

“We have listened to the concerns of business about the regulatory burden imposed by this legislation. We are looking again to see what we can do.”
